The latest employee to be quizzed in our monthly feature is Andy Nadin, UNTHA UK’s spare parts and service technician. Find out about his role, his favourite shredder and how he takes time out to relax.

Name: Andy Nadin

Job title: Spare Parts and Service Technician

What does your role entail?

My role is extremely varied. I deal with customer requirements regarding any spare parts needed, and carry out preventative maintenance and repairs to their machines. I’m also involved in supporting the engineers, as well as running trials at our test centre, situated in the Boroughbridge headquarters.

How long have you been with the company?

Since February 2012 – and I’ve loved every minute, it hasn’t been a chore.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The rest of the team make coming into work a joy. I don’t think you can stay truly committed and motivated in your role if you don’t have great people around you. I’m lucky to have some great colleagues that I really like working with.

For you, which is UNTHA’s stand-out shredder?

I am old school, so it has to be the RS40 – treat her well, she will run for ever with little fuss; although the new XR is quickly coming out of the shadows and showing all the talk was justified.

Which is your favourite UNTHA project?

I don’t really get involved in the projects until the machines are in service – but I do take pride in servicing the needs of Suez, because they’re such a renowned brand throughout the UK and beyond.

What’s been your biggest work achievement, since joining UNTHA?

Creating and implementing a stock control system for spare parts, which I also maintain. The addition of this process was a major development for the company and I am proud to have played such an important role in this.

Describe UNTHA in three words:

Innovative, committed and reliable.

And finally some more light-hearted questions:

What’s your favourite food?

Shopska Salad – a traditional Bulgarian salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, peppers and cheese.

How do you relax on a weekend?

I have two young children, so I never have chance to ‘relax’! You just can’t beat a walk through Nidd Gorge in Knaresborough – skimming stones in the river and building dens in the woods with the kids.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what is the one thing you couldn’t live without?

Other than the wife (if she is reading this) it would have to be food and water!
