UNTHA UK’s chairman Chris Oldfield took part in an online, advice-led event, earlier this month. He joined fellow speakers Chris Murphy (deputy chief executive of CIWM) and Paul Rendle-Barnes (group senior business development at Avanti Environmental) to deliver the webinar – ‘A Buyer’s Guide to Shredders’.
And now, the 60 minute session is available on ‘catch up’.
Together, the three industry experts evaluated the extent to which, in the current economic climate, procuring the right machinery matters more than ever. They discussed the impact of the Brexit decision to date, before looking at how the landscape is likely to further evolve moving forwards.
A key theme throughout was certainly the need for technology such as shredders to adapt, if operators are to extract the most value from their ‘waste’ long into the future.
Chris Oldfield therefore talked attendees through how to build a best-fit shredder specification, which considers everything from the obvious criteria such as throughputs and particle sizing, through to the lesser-acknowledged detail such as whole life running costs, power consumption and noise levels.
Paul then shared his own shredder procurement journey, advising on the timescales to allow when approaching the market for new machinery, the measurement of ROI and wider plant design.
There was also the chance for delegates to put their questions to the speakers, live on air. This Q&A session explored everything from maintenance to shredder configurability.
