New engineer recruited following interview in Alaska!

UNTHA UK has expanded its after sales team with the appointment of a new workshop engineer, Matt Knowles.

However, Matt’s recruitment did not follow the usual interview process at the team’s North Yorkshire headquarters – Matt was working on a ship off the coast of Alaska at the time!

As an experienced mechanical and electrical engineer, the last five years of Matt’s career have been spent on cruise ships. Before that he served in the Navy, so is used to life at sea. But a job in Boroughbridge caught his attention, which led to his first ‘meeting’ with UNTHA UK, via Skype.

Impressed with his extensive CV and multi-disciplined engineering background, the management team knew he was the right candidate for the role. He was therefore hired and, only a matter of weeks later, he’s on board at HQ.

Having taken on the varied responsibilities that come with the ‘workshop engineer’ title, Matt will support UNTHA UK’s after sales team with their installation, service and maintenance work on clients’ sites. Back in Yorkshire, he will also undertake shredder rebuilds and refurbishments, coordinate orders for spare and wear parts, and generally help keep everything running smoothly in the busy test centre.

Commenting on his reason for joining the company, Matt said: “It’s clear that UNTHA UK is a growing company with a wealth of success under its belt, but with big plans for the future. I’m excited to be a part of that, and see where it can take me in my career.

“The role is incredibly versatile, which I personally find really interesting, but it will also put my diverse engineering skills to good use. I’m pleased that my location didn’t prove a barrier during the interview process – it just goes to show how strong UNTHA UK’s communication skills are!”
