There’s a new face at UNTHA UK’s North Yorkshire headquarters. Seventeen year old Anna Podolan has joined the Boroughbridge team for a summer of work experience.
An engineering student from Hallein, Austria, Anna is mid-way through her machine building qualification at technical college. Keen to combine work-based insight with her academic learning, she has already spent four weeks at UNTHA’s Austrian headquarters, in the summer of 2015. The placement gave her an insight into all sides of the business, from shredder manufacturing through to project delivery, after sales and brand marketing.
This ‘taste’ of UNTHA left Anna hungry for more. So, when her college tutor encouraged her to pursue a second internship – but this time overseas – she returned to our global brand to ask for help.
Anna explains: “I first wanted to work with UNTHA as they are a world-renowned machinery manufacturer, located practically on my doorstep! I hoped the nature of the business would bring my studies to life and I wasn’t disappointed. I learned a lot and enjoyed my time with the team in Kuchl.
“However, I was aware that UNTHA has subsidiary companies worldwide and, when I started exploring the idea of working abroad, I thought they might be able to help me with a placement in the UK.”
UNTHA’s Austrian team therefore put Anna in touch with UK chairman Chris Oldfield, an industry ambassador renowned for his commitment to skills development, particularly in young people.
Chris elaborates: “We were only too happy to welcome Anna in to our North Yorkshire operation. Her English is excellent, so she slotted in straight away. She is clearly a talented young lady with lots of skills to offer the industry in future. I hope we can play a part in nurturing her knowledge of the market and the complete shredder life cycle. You never know, she might come back to work for our brand one day when she qualifies from college!”
