The new UNTHA QR shredder has been installed at CANDI Plastic Recycling in southern Austria, as interest in this latest technological innovation heats up.
Established in 2001, CANDI Plastic specialises in the collection and treatment of non-hazardous waste, with a niche focus on the processing of plastics into recyclable granulates. But handling 3,500 tonnes of plastic per year, the company began looking for a robust, easy-clean plastic shredder that could effectively handle a range of plastic materials including filament strings and large bags.
When CANDI Plastic approached UNTHA, they learned of the opportunity to participate in the trials of a brand new machine – the QR plastic shredder. At the time, the innovation was in the prototype phase. But, by being able to participate in the QR’s development was beneficial for both parties. CANDI could help manufacture a machine suited entirely to their needs, and in return, UNTHA could fine tune a product that expertly satisfied industry requirements.
In the trials that followed, the CANDI team was impressed with several features of the QR:
- It’s versatility and ability to effortlessly shred all kinds of plastic, regardless of the material’s structure, condition and properties
- Ease of cleaning and maintenance, thanks to a hydraulic flap which provides safe and easy access to the heart of the shredder
- A safety coupling to prevent damage caused by foreign objects
- Low energy usage, which reduces the operator’s carbon footprint and minimises ongoing running costs
- A large diameter rotor, increased screen surface and maintenance-free pusher technology for impressive throughputs.
CANDI Plastic therefore placed an order for the final QR1700 shredder when it was officially available on the market.
Adding a personal comment, CANDI Plastic’s managing director Georghe Campan said: “So far, the QR1700 has fulfilled all my expectations. I am particularly impressed with the multi-functional flap that makes foreign objects easy to remove and the hopper easy to clean.”
The QR was in development for two years in total, before it was launched at the world-renowned IFAT event in Germany, this spring. Two customers followed CANDI Plastic in quick succession, placing further international orders for the shredder.
The QR will be on show at the K2016 trade fair in Dusseldorf, this week! If you’re attending, visit UNTHA on stand B56, hall 9.
