In this month’s employee Q&A, we chat to Liz Crompton, UNTHA UK’s company accountant. She talks to us about all things numbers, shares with us her favourite part of the role and reveals who her dream client would be…
Name: Liz Crompton
Job title: Company accountant
Summarise your role in one paragraph
Essentially, I deal with anything financial here in the office. From payroll and sales/purchase invoices through to year end accounts and audits – my job is certainly a numbers game!
What’s your favourite part of the job?
The fact that every single day here is different. I always have a work plan, but very rarely stick to it 100%. If something unpredictable and urgent lands on my desk – which does happen – I have to deal with that as a priority and rearrange my week accordingly. But I like that – it keeps me on my toes!
Which one word would your colleagues use to describe you?
Precise.
What does it take to be a great shredder partner?
Reliability. The products being sold need to be of a high and consistent quality – it keeps the company looking good and the customers always happy!
If one of your shredders could win an award, which would be most worthy?
For me it would be the RS40 – it’s very reliable and is also easily installed at client sites.
The phone rings and it’s your dream client… who would it be?
Helen Housby – an incredible shooter who has played netball for England and who I admire for her ability to succeed under huge pressure. She now lives in Australia – so it could be a great overseas trip too!
Describe your most satisfying shredder sale/installation to date (machine & application)
From an accounts perspective, it would be any of the RS40 installs. They are usually relatively straightforward and seamless, and following these sales the revenue for the company is immediately recognised.
UNTHA has received particular praise for its customer support services in recent months – why are these so important for clients in the modern waste and recycling industry?
Customer support is vital in any ongoing relationship and helps to strengthen the firm. Our existing clients provide a steady stream of repeat business, so we already have a strong market there, which we don’t want to prejudice. You can’t allow standards to slip once a purchase has been made – people will simply go elsewhere.
What are your hopes for UNTHA in the coming year?
In terms of our profitability, I’d like to see us get as close as possible to achieving the budget which has been set – and keep clients delighted along the way of course!
What is the biggest challenge facing the industry over the next 12 months?
The uncertainty of the Euro has been a big one over the last few years and it’s crucial now, with the ongoing Brexit negotiations. For us, it will without a doubt have an effect on how we do business with our colleagues in Austria. But I’m confident everything will be ok!
